Foundations of Horsemanship is a curriculum based program which begins the Saddle Club 19 level series of lessons. Students can range from ages 5-99 years young. Students will learn how to weigh & measure a horse, horse colors & markings, horse behavior, how to "catch" a horse, removing a horse from the stall, haltering, leading, tying the safety knot and more. There isn't much riding in the Foundations class, but students will interface with their horse each class meeting. The last day of class, students will ride (on lead line) and will be award with their certificate of completion!!! They are then promoted to Horsemanship Level One. There are a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 in the Foundations of Horsemanship class.
Riders eligible for open riding will have graduated from Horsemanship Level 3 with an 80% or better in the Robinson Ranch Saddle Club Series.

PREREQUISITE - FOUNDATIONS OF HORSEMANSHIP: Rider is someone who may have only been ponied on a horse, has been on a trail horse or has completed Robinson Ranch’s Foundations class or demonstrated the knowledge to pass Foundations. S/he is learning to perfect their ground work with the horse. How to catch the horse, halter it properly, lead it (butterfly wings), tie the safety knot, grooming tools and how they are used, etc.
If the student exhibits mastery, they will start beginning riding by working on balance, how to control a horse at a walk in a straight line and through turns; simple change of direction; to stop a horse with ease. groom their horse without assistance; safe horse spacing; and approach and halter a horse in a stall.
Riders eligible for open riding will have graduated from Horsemanship Level 3 with an 80% or better in the Robinson Ranch Saddle Club Series.

S/he can catch their horse, halter it properly, lead it, tie it to the rail using the safety knot technique, identify all the grooming tools and know how to use them properly. S/he is learning how to control their horse with precision, is able to do lefts, rights, halts, half halts; changes direction correctly and with ease.

Hippotherapy is a physical, occupational, and speech therapy that utilizes the natural gait and movement of a horse to provide motor, and sensory input. It is based on improvement of neurologic functions, and sensory processes, and used for patients with physical, and mental disorders.
