Foundations of Horsemanship

About the Foundations of Horsemanship Summer Program

This 5 day program uses horses to make learning fun! It is a fantastic way for children to learn the fundamental needs of a horse and learn basic horsemanship skills in preparation for riding.

Children will have a set of daily duties at the ranch that include:

  • Morning Feeding
  • Cleaning stalls
  • Care of horse tack

During the foundation course, children will learn: safety around horses

  • The proper way to groom a horse
  • Parts of the horse
  • Hoof care
  • Saddling
  • How to read a horse’s behavior

Each of these components will be tied in with grade appropriate math, science, critical thinking and language art skills. The last 2 days the children will have the opportunity to mount the horse and practice all the skills they have learned throughout the week. All students are required to have a signed Release of Liability on file. Helmets and snacks are provided. The cost is $199.00 for non program members. Please contact us for program members cost or to book the program.
